Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky

Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky was born on 7th of May in 1840 in Votkinsk, province of Vyatka, present day Udmurtia. His father was an engineer. Tchaikovsky had four brothers, a sister and a half-sister from his father’s first marriadge. He took piano lessons at the age of five. His interest to music was admired and supported by parents.
In 1850 family moved to Saint Petersburg. Parents decided to send their son to the Imperial School of Jurisprudence. Before entering there Tchaikovsky spent 2 years in preparatory school abroad. His separation from mother was very hard for him.
In the school Tchaikovsky also had music lessons. He was very good at piano. In 16 yaears his teachers were Luigi Piccioli and Rudolf Kundinger. In 1859 Tchaikovsky graduated with the rank titular counselor.
In 1861 he attended music classes, organized by Russian Music Society, that was turned into Saint Petersburg Conservatory in 1862, where his teacher was Rubinstein.
By graduating Tchaikovsky got silver medal. In 1865 he began to teach music theory and composing in Moscow Conservatory.
The greatest and the most famous Tchaikovsky works are:
Orchestral work “Romeo and Juliet” (accompanies the video)
1812 Overture. It is an interesting fact that this work is a common accompaniment to fireworks displays, including even the fireworks show on the Independence Day of the USA.

In 1893 Tchaikovsky conducted the premiere of the 6th symphony, nine days later he died. Some people think that the reason is cholera, but there are facts that prove that Tchaikovsky drank contaminated water before death.
